Spellathon Olympiads ‘My Cool Q’ Inter-School Grand Finale Round

On Sunday, 4th October 2015, Gokhale Memorial Girls’ School was filled with lively chatters and rumbling feet. It was the Grand Finale Round of the Spellathon Vocabulary Competition. It was the first of its kind vocabulary competition organized by the Spellathon Olympiads My Cool Q. It was not only a competition but also an initiative to grow the love for English language among children. In other words it was fun learning.

The Inter-school Grand Finale round was arranged in 4 slots and starting from 9 in the morning it continued till 4 in the afternoon.

The Spellathon Olympiads went one step further the traditional Spell Bee. It was not like a traditional and boring vocabulary or spelling test held on a Sunday!

The main purpose of the competition was to help the pupil improve their concept of the English language, its correct usage, improving the spellings and increasing their stock of words. Mrs. Janaki Ventakramani, the Founder Director of Spellathon Olympiads said, “Spelling and Vocabulary are, in essence, two sides of the same coin. As a child studies the spelling of a word and its etymology, he will discover its meaning. As a child learns the meaning of the word, it becomes easier to spell. And all of this enhances the child’s knowledge of the English Language.”

Entertainment for the guardians

The organizers of the Spellathon Olympiads were equally concerned about the students as well as the guardians. An amazing presentation was arranged to entertain the guardians of the participants. Four students of different age groups of the SIP Abacus Academy, Kolkata was called up on stage and asked to solve huge calculations. It was an absolutely unbelievable site to see the students solving the problems in lightning speed.
